The challenge
Permanent contact with the medium at fluctuating temperature and pressure conditions: liquid and/or gaseous chlorine, a temperature range from -34 °C to +105 °C and pressures of up to 20 bar. What’s needed is a secure and permanent seal for a flange with sealing lip and/or flange with groove and spring.

The challenge
All gas meters have one thing in common: Safety is the top priority. Even if the sealing surface webs are narrow, all of the flat gaskets must be permanently gas-tight and comply with the required approvals:

A machine’s whole lifetime AFM 38 cover and casing gaskets for stationary transmissions and gear motors.

The challenge
Gaskets for the power units of paper machines, conveyor belts, cranes, escalators and many other applications have to last a machine’s whole life – despite low bolt forces, flexurally weak components (die-cast aluminum) and relatively rough milled sealing surfaces. Such cases require gaskets with uneven distributions and sometimes very low surface pressures to equally withstand all types of transmission oils, synthetic oils (polyglycol oils, ester oils) or very high temperatures of up to 150°C (302 °F).

A favorite among design engineers and plant operators: AFM 38 is the soft, compressible and adaptable aramide fiber-based gasket material with great chemical resistance to all manner of transmission oils. The challenge
Feed in and discharge hydrogen safely. Hydrogen is used in tempering steel in industrial furnaces, where it serves as an inert gas for normalization and recrystallization. Its high diffusibility makes hydrogen very difficult to seal off. What’s more, it’s highly flammable and forms dangerous explosive gas upon contact with the oxygen in the air.

The challenge
Facilities for producing biodiesel require many process steps (such as transesterification and distillation) from the starting product to the final product. Media such as vegetable oils (palm, sunflower and canola oil), methane, glycerin and vegetable oil methyl ester are safe at temperatures of over 150° C (302 °F) and can be sealed off safely and reliably – ideally with a single gasket material, for reasons of standardization.
